The theme of the Savoir Beds Grand Prix in 2013 was “Royal”. The Gloriana headboard design was inspired by the slashed doublets of Elizabethan dress, which I combined with traditional deep buttoned upholstery. Red velvet, white silk slashes and resin pearls evoked the imagery of the Virgin Queen. Rich red velvet from Colefax & Fowler and a complimentary cord from Henry Newbery complete the regal design. Working with an upholsterer, I developed a prototype to see how the innovative buttoning and silk puffed slash feature could be achieved.
